Astana’s new rail station opened

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has opened Astana new railway station called “Nurly Zhol”, that it has received the first passenger train on June 1st. “Nurly Zhol railway station is unique, there is no such station in the entire post-Soviet area,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said. The head of state also stressed the dynamic pace of infrastructure and transport development in the entire country; for example, the launch of the high-speed Talgo trains from Astana to all regions.
The railway complex is a six-level building with a total area of 126 thousand square meters, to which six receiving-and-departure tracks are connected. Pick-up and drop-off zone is at the level of the third floor. The station is equipped with most advanced intelligent systems of controlling and monitoring passenger traffic, queue, security and smart ticketing. In the building of the station, with an area of more than 120 thousand square meters, all conditions for the passengers’ mobility with reduced physical capabilities are created, and provided tactile paths, an information board with the use of the Braille alphabet, special cash desks.
The capacity of the new station is up to 35,000 passengers per day, which will significantly relieve the load from the existing station of Astana with a capacity of 12,000 passengers per day. The station’s management said it expects a passenger flow of approximately 12 million people a year.
A team of international experts such as Buro Happold (Great Britain), Tabanlioglu Architects (Turkey), Jamas (Germany) adopted the design solutions that allowed the station to be located on concourse, above the railway tracks.
On June 3rd the first passenger train “Samarkand-Tashkent-Astana” arrived to the new railway station. The new international route is opened within the framework of implementation of the agreements Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on strengthening bilateral cooperation. The launch of this international train was organized by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Uzbekiston Temir Yollari. The train Samarkand-Astana will give a new impetus to the relations between the two countries, and will contribute to the development of tourism, which is important during the international exhibition EXPO-2017.
Nurly Zhol was put into commercial service for the “EXPO-2017″ international exhibition, as the whole city is undergoing development projects with new buildings, hotels and services that are soon to be launched.
