The Uzbek city of Samarkand inaugurated a newly built tram line. The total length of the line will be 34.8 km (with total of four lines). In phase I, the first 11.4 km line will be laid. To date, the 7.2-kilometer section has been completed.
According to Akbar Shukurov, First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways, the new trams will run on Railway Station – Sartepa route.
Currently, construction works are ongoing on the 5-kilometer line from the rail station to Siab market. A depot is being built intended for the maintenance of trams in this area. The next phase will include the construction and laying of a 23.4 km tram line.
With the purpose of providing tram traffic with electricity, 4 traction substations have been built, which function independently and do not have a negative impact on the city’s electricity supply.
