PKP Polish Railway Lines and the consortium formed by ZUE, Strabag and Budimex signed the contract for the modernisation of Żychlin- Barłogami rail section, as part of Warsaw – Poznań mainline modernisation project. This is the second contract signed within the project and is valuated at PLN 560 million (EUR 131.8 million).
The project involves the modernisation of 88 km line and the installation of 108 modern turnouts, the replacement of more than 200 km of traction network, the reconstruction of 5 bridges and 3 railway viaducts. Under the contract, will be installed new control systems and it will be built a local control center in Kutno (Łódź Voivodeship).
The works are scheduled to start in June 2017 and are expected to be completed in November 2019.
The modernisation of the section will increase train capacity, allowing more trains per day.
The Warsaw – Poznań modernisation is a strategic project for Poland and the European Union, as is part of the TEN-T North-Baltic transport corridor, one of the nine priority corridors. The project has received EU funds under Connecting Europe Facility and from European Investment Bank.
Warsaw – Poznań line has a 235 km length and is forming the core TEN-T network in Poland. The total cost of the project was estimated at PLN 2.6 billion (EUR 612 million).
