Railway PRO Forum: Railport Arad an East – West freight hub

Railport Arad is a container terminal in Arad, a gate between the East and West, with a total area of 10,3 ha, of which, until now, 8 ha is the built-in area. With a 24/7 availability, the terminal, with 1700 TEU storage capacity, has 7 rail lines, of which 5 lines (600m each) are under the cranes and 2 lines (650m each) for storage. The Railport Arad is needed a EUR 18 million investment that will be paid off within 15-20 years. The terminal was opened for business in 2009 and in 2016 it has dispatched more than 90,000 TEU.
Railport Arad container terminal is located just next to Curtici station, the most important common Hungarian-Romanian railway border crossing point, being on two European core-network corridors, which are running from Hamburg to Sofia and Thessaloniki or Istanbul, and the 10th Pan-European transport corridor from Strasburg to Bucuresti and Constanta. The terminal is just 20 km away from the Timisoara – Arad – Nadlac motorway.
Railport Arad is operating the biggest and most up to date inland container terminal in Romania, in the Western part of the country. The terminal is dealing with handling and storage of all kind of UTIs (Unités de Transport Intermodal – Intermodal Transport Units).
The container terminal was presented to the participants during the second day of the Railway Pro Technology and Services Forum, organized by Club Feroviar and Railway PRO together with the Romanian Railway Industry Association (AIF), in Arad on 5-6 April.
