Track-free tram solution proposed for Parramatta Road

The City of Canada Bay Council with Inner West, City of Sydney, Burwood and Strathfield Councils agreed to urge the New South Wales Government to adopt a new solution for Parramatta LRT system that will transform Parramatta Road, a historical east-west artery of metropolitan Sydney.
The Council is backing calls in the Parramatta Road Light Rail Opportunities Study to preserve a centre running transit corridor on the Road and install a Guided Electric Transit System (GETS).
The Study, commissioned by Inner West and Canada Bay Councils, has highlighted that a centre running GETS is a modern, medium cost solution that could be in place from day one of the operation of WestConnex Stage 3 – opening up public transport options for the future and acting as a catalyst for the revitalisation of Parramatta Rd.
According to the study, a Guided Electric Transit System can be operational at an estimated cost of USD 153 million compared to the State Government’s proposal for a Rapid Bus Transit system at an estimated cost of USD 100 million.
