Kaliningrad-Yuzhny railway station will be opened in 2017

Works for the complex reconstruction and modernisation of the Kaliningrad-Yuzhny railway station will be completed by the endof 2017.  Kaliningrad station will be equipped with an integrated security system, including metal detectors, X-ray machines for baggage screening, and 209 new digital video cameras throughout the inner and outer perimeter of the station complex. Security checks will begin directly on the station forecourt. In addition, a new navigation and voice notification system will be installed, including in English, as part of the preparation of the station complex for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Particular attention is being paid to creating a barrier-free environment for passengers with low mobility. Direct access to the station is provided for low-mobility passengers from the station forecourt. The station complex is equipped with special lifting mechanisms, including those connecting the passenger platforms and tunnels.
“From the point of view of Russian Railways, the modernisation of the station infrastructure is being carried out in a systemic manner. After reconstruction, the station will meet all modern standards with regard to transport security and offer barrier-free environment for passengers with low mobility and comfortable and convenient waiting rooms,” said Vitaly Votolevsky, the head of the Rail Station Directorate at Russian Railways.
