Poland: Lublin – Stalowa Wola electrification contract signed

PKP Polish Railway Lines, PKP PLK, and Track Tec Construction signed the contract on the modernisation and electrification of Lublin – Stalowa Wola rail line. The modernised line will allow better access to Eastern part of Poland, and between provinces’ capital cities like Olsztyn, Bialystok, Lublin, Rzeszów and Kielce.
“Eastern Poland needs new investment in its transport infrastructure and this project, once completed, will improve national and international rail connections,” the Secretary Minister of Infrastructure and Construction Andrzej Bittel said.
The electrification of Lublin – Stalowa Wola line will create new opportunities for regional and long-distance passenger transport and will improve transport services on line No. 7 between Warsaw – Lublin – Dorohusk.
“Increase the maximum speed to 120 km/h will shorten time travel on the 100 km-route. The travel from Rzeszów to Stalowa Wola and Lublin will be more safely and comfortably and will allow smooth travel on Lublin – Warsaw route. Replacing the track and electrification of the line will create new opportunities for regional and interregional passenger traffic,” Ireneusz Merchel, CEO of PKP Polish Railway Lines said.
The project is the largest investment financed under Operational Programme Eastern Poland 2014 – 2020, and its value within National Railway Strategy is PLN 460 million (EUR 106.4 million).
