The Moscow Metro is testing the new generation Moskva trains. The first Moskva train has arrived at the Vykhino train maintenance facility for final testing, due to run through February. The new train will operate on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line (Line 7), with sandbags in lieu of passengers. Engineers will check the train’s software, brakes and other important parameters.
The first 10-15 carriages differ from others, which will arrive at a later date, in terms of their design. For example, the manufacturer has replaced rectangular windows with slightly rounded versions. The Moscow Metro will receive 96 modern trains (768 carriages) before 2020.
“We’ll check the first two experimental Moskva trains, including the technical equipment and passenger services, and we’ll identify and adjust any problems,” Deputy Moscow Mayor and Maxim Liksutov said.
The new lighter carriages will be quite safe because of their unique wheel assembly design. The “gangway” corridor running through the entire length of the trains will make it possible to walk from one carriage to another. The new train can accommodate up to 1,500 passengers or 15 percent more than current metro trains. It has special seats for people with disabilities and wide door openings.
The first Moskva trains will enter regular service in March-April 2017.
