The authorities in the Chelyabinsk region, Russia, discussed with delegates from South Korea the prospects for construction of a high-speed rail network connecting the cities of Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg.
The governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Boris Dubrovsky, held negotiations with Hyundai Rotem, the rolling stock producer based in South Korea.
According to the president of Hyundai Rotem, the company’s participation in Chelyabinsk-Yekaterinburg high-speed railway project will let it enter Russian railway market.
In the near future, the parties intend to discuss technical and economical components of the project.
On the other hand, currently, this high-speed railway project is at an active stage of implementation.
In July 2016, the Federal Center for Project Finance and Governments of Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk Regions signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the construction of high-speed railway between Chelyabinsk and Ekaterinburg. The railway will exceed 200 kilometres in length.
The high speed rail construction project is included in the first stage of Russian Railways’ program for the organization of high speed railway service by 2020. Chelyabinsk-Ekaterinburg high speed is expected to start the commercial service at the end of 2021.
