The Qingdao city in the province of Shandong, China, has fully put into service the second metro Line 3 section, after partially opened in December 2015 (12.5 km). Alstom supplied for the entire line, a traction system and Train Control Monitoring System (TCMS) for 144 metro cars following a contract awarded by Qingdao Metro Group Co. Ltd. in December 2011.
The first metro line in Shandong Province, Qingdao Line 3 is now 25 km long with 22 stations. It links Qingdao’s two railway stations; Qingdao Railway Station, located in the southwest, with Qingdao North Railway Station. The line passes through several important landmarks along Qingdao’s coastal area, including Huiquan Plaza, Zhongshan Park, Taipingjiao Park and 4 May Plaza.
The OptONIX traction systems as well as the TCMS for Qingdao Line 3 were manufactured by Alstom’s local joint venture (JV), Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co. Ltd. (SATEE), with motors manufactured by another Alstom local JV: Xi’an Alstom Yongji Electric Equipment Co. (XAYEECO). Alstom’s Charleroi site in Belgium and Valenciennes in France provided software, while Villeurbanne and Tarbes, also in France, as well as Charleroi, provided components.
