The advantages of railway transport include the ability to deliver large volume of cargo over long distances, high load capacity of the rolling stock unit and low specific fuel consumption per unit of cargo turnover.
The large-scale construction of railways is underway in Turkmenistan, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.

The new Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway with a length of 697.5 kilometers on the Turkmen territory, and which links the EU member states, Russia and Kazakhstan with the Gulf countries, was built in 2014.

At present, the construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway is underway, its Turkmen section [Atamyrat-Imamnazar-Akina (Afghanistan)] was completed and its launch is planned for November 2016.
