Within the framework of the annual meeting devoted to the direct Russian-Finnish railway link held in Helsinki, RZD and VR signed an agreement on the transport of freight in private wagons from Finland to Russia using paperless technology and electronic transport documents.
As a result, the necessary regulatory base for freight transport with electronic shipping documents between the two countries has now been completed.
During January-October 2016, 12.1 million tons of freight were transported across the railway border crossings between Finland and Russia, 17% more than during the same period in 2015. In the same period, the volume of container transportation amounted to 27,900 TEU, an increase of 29% compared to the same period in 2015.
