The Philippine company A Brown and Malaysia’s East-West Rail Transit Corp signed a MoU for the USD 1 billion light rail project in Manila. The MoU was the initiative of the two companies. The line will connect Quiapo in Manila to Diliman in Quezon City.
The MoU will be analyzed by under a governmental process, according to the Trade & Industry secretary, Ramon Lopez. “It’s an unsolicited proposal for now, but it would go through the normal process with the Department of Transport. Before we approve this, the government would have to see other offers,” Lopez said.
The two companies intend to build the LRT within 3 years.
For the project, a separate USD 500 million agreement for a different railway involving another consortium may be signed later.
