An agreement with Hyperloop One was announced on 8 November 2016 to assess a high speed intercity transportation system linking it to Abu Dhabi.
Hyperloop One is a United States company formed to explore Elon Musk’s Hyperloop concept. The Hyperloop high speed transport system uses electric propulsion to accelerate capsules through a tube in a low pressure environment. The autonomous capsules levitate slightly above the track and glide at very high speed over long distances. They are capable of reaching a top speed of 1,300 km/h.
Travel time by Hyperloop between Dubai and Abu Dhabi would be only 12 minutes, compared with the current journey (just under two hours by car, without traffic).
In October 2016 Dubai had hosted a competition to design a Hyperloop track between Dubai and Fujairah. Port operator DP World has already signed an agreement with Hyperloop One to conduct a feasibility study for using the technology at Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port.
