Bulgaria’s Transport Ministry announced that it had launched a project for the construction of a 23 km double-track railway section connecting Sofia with the town of Elin Pelin to the east of the capital. The project is financed under the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The allocated funds for the project amount to 120 million levs (61.4 million euros).
The contractor is a consortium which includes Hungarian company Kelet – UT and local firm AB, the ministry said. The project must be completed in four years, including one year for planning and three years for the construction of the railway section.
