The Romanian Minister of Transports, Sorin Bușe, and the reprezentatives of CFR SA (the national rail infrastructure manager) and CFR Călători (the national rail pasenger operator) presented a project which will facilitate the connection between Gara de Nord (the North railway station in Bucharest) and the Henri Coandă International Airport, located in Otopeni, near Bucharest.
According to the project, on the Gara de Nord – Odăile (17 km) rail route, the line is operable and only requires rehabilitation and electrification. On this route, Odăile – Otopeni Airport, with a length of 17 km, the project proposes the construction of a new railway line of 2.4 km, along with a new rail terminal. The works will be carried out by CFR SA.
According to the Minister of Transport, Sorin Bușe, works will begin in May 2017 and will be completed in the first phase in April 2018. The entire project cost amounts to EUR 88 million, the money being provided by European funds. The price of a ticket on this route will be RON 3.9 (1 Euro). It is estimated that a trip, on the new route, will be around 18 minutes.
