Norway’s 2017 budget proposal ensures good progress on all initiated railway projects, and the planning of new projects. Steps will be taken to facilitate implementation of the railway reform in 2017. “I am pleased that the government envisages a continued high level of activity in maintenance and modernisation of the existing rail network,” said the general director of Jernbaneverket (the Norwegian National Rail Administration).
The government will allocated almost NOK 22 billion (EUR 2.44 billion) to support the railway projects.
In addition, the budget highlights the importance planning new rail projects in 2018.
Among important rail projects is the construction of Follo Line including the financing for Oslo – Ski, and the Farriseidet – Porsgrunn (construction has been launched in 2012 and will be completed in the summer of 2018) on Vestfoldbanen and Arna-Bergen double track.
In 2015, Jernbaneverket infrastructure division submitted a maintenance plan for the period until 2027. The maintenance plan outlines measures for dealing with the entire backlog by 2030, and this has also been adopted as the transport agencies’ proposal in their essential document for the next National Transport Plan.
