The Bangladesh government has given approval for the rail link between Akhaura (Bangladesh) and Agartala (India). The approval of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is a big boost to the project that has been facing hurdles in terms of land acquisition.
The approval was given for the Bangladesh part of the railway line. Out of the proposed 15.054 km, nearly 10 kilometres of dual gauge line will be laid down on Bangladesh territory.
The project is expected to cost Rs 10 billion (131.5 million euros). The Ministry of External Affairs will provide the necessary funds to the Bangladesh government.
