3 companies interested in India’s Maglev project

08-maglev indiaIndian Railways are considering the introduction of Maglev trains in the country. The company has sought expressions of interest for running trains at about 500 km per hour to reduce travel time considerably between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Three companies – two from US and one from Japan – have so far shown interest. The last date for submitting the bids is 6 September, according to Railway Member (Rolling Stock) Hemant Kumar. The route for the Maglev trains has not been identified yet, he added, but there will be a 15 km long rail track constructed for the trial of Maglev trains.
The project will probably take the form of a joint venture and the Indian Railways will be a technology partner.
