The Government of Western Australia has launched a transport plan to ensure Perth’s bus network, rail links, roads and cycleways grow in order to cater for a population of 3.5 million. The Perth Transport Plan for 3.5 million People and Beyond has been developed over two years by transport planning experts, based on extensive research and modelling.
The strategy outlines the importance of a Stirling-Murdoch orbital rail servicing Fiona Stanley Hospital and Murdoch University via QEII and The University of Western Australia (UWA) and the light rail that will provide an inner orbital link connecting UWA and QEII to Canning Bridge, via the Perth CBD, Victoria Park and Curtin University.
To serve a 2.7 million, the rail network strategy include the Forrestfield Airport Link, the extension of Midland line to Bellevue, the extension the Joondalup line to Yanchep and the connection the Thornlie line to Cockburn Central, providing a link between the Armadale and Mandurah.
For a population of 3.5 million, new heavy railways will include the the East Wanneroo Rail Link, Stirling-Murdoch Orbital, and the extension of Armadale line to Byford.
