EC approved the modification of the major project “Metro Line 5, section Raul Doamnei – Eroilor (PS Opera), Valea Ialomitei included”. The decision includes the division of the project in two phases, the first one being included in the programming period 2007-2013, while the second will be financed in the programing period 2014-2020.
Following the European Commission’s decision, the first phase of the project has an eligible value of around EUR 200 Million of which approx. EUR 170 Million is EU co-financing, through the European Fund for Regional Development. Total cost of the project amounts to over EUR 480 Million.
The Metro Line 5 will have a total length of 6.7 km, 10 depot stations and a depot located on Valea Ialomitei Station. The estimated date for the finalisation of the entire project is 31 December 2017. The major project is part of the Operational Programme “Transport”, Priority Axis 2 “Modernisation and development of the national transport infrastructure for developing a sustainable transport system”.
