The California High-Speed Rail Authority issued a Notice of Preparation (NOP) to initiate a project level environmental impact report (EIR)/environmental impact statement (EIS) for the San Francisco – San Jose project section.
At the same time, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) issued a new notice of intent to initiate the federal environmental review process for the
project section. The issuance of the noticies is to inform stakeholders about the blended system and solicit their input on the scope of the environmental document and proposed project.
The preparation of the San Francisco to San Jose environmental document for the blended system will involve a scoping and public outreach process; development of preliminary engineering designs; and assessment of environmental effects associated with the construction, operations and maintenanceof the high-speed rail system including track, ancillary
facilities and stations, along the Caltrain corridor.
The San Francisco to San Jose section is part of the first phase of the California HSR. The approximately 82 km section will be a blended system which will support a modernized Caltrain commuter service and high-speed rail service primarily on shared tracks.
