Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that Romania could benefit after completing the North-South transport corridor.
“Development of rail corridors is of high importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Tasnim news agency quoted Hassan Rouhani as saying at a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu in Tehran. After connecting Iran’s railway to Azerbaijan, Romania can play a key role in boosting economic ties through the rail corridor, Rouhani added. In turn, Romanian foreign minister underscored his country’s policy to strengthen cooperation with Iran in diplomacy, economy, culture, science and technology.
The North-South corridor is intended to connect Northern Europe to Southeastern Asia. In February, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the railways of Iran and Azerbaijan will be connected by the end of 2016.
Foreign Affairs Minister Lazar Comanescu paid a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss the relaunch of political-diplomatic relations and the economic and sectoral cooperation in areas of common interest.
The Romanian official is accompanied by a significant economic delegation, made up of high officials of the ministries with activities in the economic area — the Energy Ministry and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Relations with the Business Environment, the management of Romania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as representatives of the business environment of Romania.
