Final tests are taking place for the USD 22.5 billion Riyadh Metro now that the first phase has been completed.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s planned Haramain High Speed Train, which is currently undergoing test runs between Madinah and Rabigh, with the second stage of which is 90 percent complete, is expected to begin its trial run from the main station in Jeddah by mid-2016.
According to Arab News, the High Commission for the Development of Riyadh said that the metro is undergoing final tests to check its resilience to Riyadh’s climate, and will be transported to the kingdom in the coming months.
The train consists of 190 units being manufactured by global companies including Siemens, Bombardier and Alstom.
Alstom last year announced it had started the production of trains for the Riyadh Metro in its Katowice plant in Poland.
