Ural Locomotives has launched the operational trial for the 2ES7 freight locomotive. From January 18 until February 29, the 2ES7 locomotive will carry out the trials in winter conditions on Inzer – Kartaly – Magnitogorsk section as part of South Urals Railway.
This railway section is characterised by multiple ascents and descents with maximum gradients of 17-18‰.
The AC 2ES7 is Russia’s first electric locomotive that has been manufactured by Ural Locomotives the Siemens-Sinara JV, in 2013.
The AC double-section electric freight locomotive 2ES7 with asynchronous traction drive is designed to haul freight trains on 1520 track gauge rail lines electrified at 25kV AC 50Hz. It can haul trains with 9,000 tons on gradients up to 6‰ and trains with 6,300 tons, on gradients up to 10‰.
The design provides the possibility to couple locomotives for multiple unit operation, as well as to use one section of the locomotive in a stand alone mode.
