Santo Domingo Metro to begin Line 2 testing

Santo Domingo-metrou Alstom_metro1The Office for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret), in the Dominican Republic, announced that metro Line 2 construction work is nearing completion and network testing is expected to begin within the next 6 months. Santo Domingo operator OPRET awarded Alstom Transport a contract for the design, manufacture and putting into service of 15 Metropolis train sets for its second metro line. This contract completes the previous one, for the supply of 19 Metropolis train sets for Line 1.
Opret deputy director Leonel Carrasco said that a tunnel, which has been constructed as part of the works, has been a particularly complicated undertaking, has now been fully constructed. Focus is now turning to complete the electromechanical phases, installing rail and electrification equipment.
The bridge across the Ozama river, linking the capitals administrative district with the eastern zone, is now 60% complete.
The line will be operated by six trains, each with three cars. The route has four new stations which are currently under construction.
