Aberdeen-Inverness rail upgrade contract awarded

02-scotlandThe Scottish Government awarded BAM a £170 million (EUR 232 million) contract to upgrade of the Aberdeen-Inverness line.
The project includes the construction of the second track between Aberdeen and Inverurie (25.7 km), of a new station at Forres and straighten the railway alignment, the extension of platforms (at Insch and Elgin), the upgrading signalling systems along the route and the installment of infrastructure to allow new stations to be built at Dalcross and Kintore.
Plans for new stations at Dalcross and Kintore are being developed separately by HITRANS and NESTRANS respectively, while a further phase of the Aberdeen-Inverness Improvements Project is to be developed.
