West Africa: Concession agreement on Cotonou-Niamey rail link signed

beninBolloré Group and the governments of Niger and Benin signed concession agreement for the construction and operation of the rail infrastructure linking Niamey and Cotonou.
The agreement completes another step forward in the construction and development of the ambitious West African rail loop that should connect five countries (Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin, and Togo).
“This is a key event for the infrastructures of Benin and Niger. Both presidents —Boni Yayi and Issoufou — view it as a priority for their national infrastructure. Never has there been such an important investment in a West African country,” Lionel Zinsou, Prime Minister of Benin said.
Bolloré Group owns 40% of the company Bénirail, with Benin and Niger each holding 10% shares in the company’s capital. The remaining 40% are open to private investors in Benin and Niger.
