SK Telecom announced that it will build the world’s first railway mobile network in Busan, South Korea. Under the agreement with Busan Transportation Corp., the telecom company will establish the long-term evolution railway (LTE-R) network for the 41-kilometer-long Busan Subway Line 1 by November 2016.
The LTE-R can be used to control data related to railway operations. SK Telecom said the new network will allow railway system controllers, train engineers, station officers and maintenance workers to communicate better with each other and quickly report to rescue agencies in the event of an accident or a disaster, koreatimes informs.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the government plans to install the LTE-R network in a total of 4,800 km railways nationwide by 2025.
