Uttar Pradesh government (India) approved the first phase of the metro system in Lucknow, The Indian Express reports. Under the North-South corridor, the phase one includes the construction of 8 km-long line, from Transport Nagar to Charbagh railway station.
The project will be implemented through the financing provided by state government agencies with condition that if in any case the Centre did not finance it, the state government would bear its entire expenditure, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said.
The deadline for completion of the work is December 2016.
