Russia and China may sign inter-governmental agreement for the construction of Moscow-Beijing HSR in 2016, RZD First Deputy Vice President Alexander Misharin said. The distance between the two capitals is 8000 km.
The USD 242 billion project will see a new 400km/h line running between the capital cities in a venture that would eclipse the iconic Trans-Siberian Railway. When it is eventually completed, the journey time between Moscow and Beijing would be slashed from six days to around 33 hours. Going south of the current Trans-Siberian route, it would also link both cities to the Kazakhstan capital Astana.
