South Wales Metro a new project under Cardiff’s regional city deal

Metromain2Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb and leaders from Cardiff, Bridgend, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly discussed about the the ambitious Metro transport project that could bring a £1bn economic boost., WalesOnline reports.
City deals have allowed cities elsewhere in the UK to decide how public money is spent to boost the economy.
In South Wales, this could impact on the much-vaunted Metro project to create an integrated public transport system. “I believe it could bring the Metro to a reality. If that is going to be delivered you do need local authorities, Welsh Government, and we in the UK Government stand ready to help to deliver that,” Crabb said.
There have been 28 city deals across the UK so far, including one which has seen Manchester given powers over policing, transport and housing, as well as control of the £6bn NHS budget.
