The mobile application for the purchase of tickets for the suburban trains in Chennai, launched by Southern Railway, has encountered overwhelming succes, The Hindu reports. Accordingly, the Southern Railway has proposed to extend this facility to Salem and other railway divisions in a phased manner, Sarala Balagopal, Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, Chennai, said.
Southern Railway has also installed 74 automated ticket vending machines in all the suburban railway stations in Chennai city. Following its success, 20 more ATVMs have been installed in Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad divisions in the recent past, followed by 15 machines in nine railway stations in Salem Railway Division.
The Indian Railways have proposed to introduce this facility in all the suburban railway stations in the country.
