Lithuanian Railways has successfully tested the Vilnius and Kaunas intermodal terminals and launched the VIT express – container train on a regular shuttle route from Klaipeda port container terminal (UAB Klaipėda container terminal, “Klaipedos Smelte”) through Vaidotai railway station in the center of Vilnius public logistics intermodal terminal (VIT).
Last week, the Vilnius public logistics intermodal terminal (VIT) has successfully served VIT EKSPRES pilot container train and on May 14, in cooperation with JSC “Hoptrans projects” was carried out the test loading operation to Kaunas intermodal terminal.
“Kaunas intermodal terminal will become a very important link in the logistics chain. The Kaunsad terminal is important as here exists the European standard gauge and will provide all the necessary services” said Rima Terminaitė, the head of Lithuanian Railways Freight Forwarding Department LG Expedition .
