The Central Development Working Party has cleared the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project. The project has an estimated value of Rs165.202 billion (EUR 1.44 billion) and will be constructed with Chinese assistance.
The Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project will be carried out by the Government of Punjab from its own resources and with the help of a concessional loan from the Chinese government. “It will be a landmark mass transit project for the poor people and the middle class to commute with world class facilities at affordable fare,” the minister said.
The project envisages construction of 27.1 km long dedicated signal free corridor for train mass transit system in Lahore. The proposed route starts from Ali Town passing through Niazbaig, Bund road, Chaubrugi, Anarkali, Lakshmi, Railway Station, UET, Shalamar Garden, Islam Park to Dera Gujran. The corridor will have two lines and a capacity of 30,000 passengers/hr.
