Qatar Railways Company announced that it was completed the excavation of 20 km (20 per cent) tunnel as part of Doha Metro project. The company confirmed it has received 21 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) assigned for the project. ”We are pleased to announce the completion of nearly 20 km of tunnels out of 113km; a development that we at Qatar Rail are proud of,” Managing Director of Qatar Rail Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie said.
Qatar Railways Company estimated that the tunneling process will be finalised until 2017, but that not all stations will be immediately accessible to the public.
Almost QR65 billion (USD 17.86 billion) worth of contracts have been awarded so far for the Doha Metro, which will initially consist of four lines: The Red Line North, The Red Line South (that will connect Hamad International Airport), The Green Line, and The Gold Line.
