Freight volume transported by railway in January-March in China has decreased by 9% compared to the same period of last year. The railways transported 870 million tons of cargo, according to China Railway Corp.
This drop is consistent with other economic indicators that show prolonged weakness in the economy. Following a housing slowdown, weakening domestic demand and unsteady exports, the economy grew only by 7.4% in 2014, its weakest annual expansion in 24 years.
