Jacksonville-based ShipXpress and SparkCognition have partenered to roll out a predictive analytic software that can identify when a railcar is going to break down. According to Raghu Misra, cofounder and chief technology officer of ShipXpress, the data collected from various existing sensors will be used to predict when the railcar is bound to fail.
Beyond increasing safety by helping reduce the number of accidents caused by failed railcars, the results would mean shippers, railcar owners and railroads could all save money on repair costs for loaded cars that fail while on the tracks. The technology has already been tested and will be on the market soon.
