Bulgaria: metro line to Sofia Airport, almost ready to be launched

The construction of metro line to Sofia Airport (Bulgaria) is 99 per cent ready and will be commissioned at the beginning of April. The line to the Business Park is 96 per cent ready and will start operating at the beginning of May at the earliest, announced the minister of Transport, Ivaylo Moskovski.
The project for the expansion of the underground in Sofia – Lot 3 is financed under Operational Program Transport 2007-2013 and is divided in two sections: Lot 1 Tsarigradsko Shose – Sofia Airport, and Lot 2 Mladost 1 – the Business Park in Mladost 4. Its total amount is 407 million levs (EUR 206 million), as 215 million levs (EUR 109 million) of them are provided under OPT 2007-2013. Some 7.6 km of underground lines and 7 new stations are included in the scope of the project.
The extension refers to Line 1 (or the Red Line) to connect the north-west area with Sofia International Airport and Business Park (in the south-east). The projects is part of the first diameter, “Obelya RD – Lyulin RD – Centre – Mladost RD – Druzhba RD –Sofia Airport” that will have 29 km of railway and 23 stations.
