Medina Metro Development Authority (MMDA) has selected a consortium of Egis and Systra to carry out design studies for the planned 95km three-line metro network in the Saudi holy city of Medina.
The contract covers the Green, Red, and Blue lines, which will include 25km of underground line and 48km of elevated lines. The project is divided into two phases and commercial services are expected to begin in 2020.
The consortium will be responsible for carrying out feasibility studies and preliminary design, including preparation of tender documentation for design-and-build contracts. A project team will be based in Medina for a year to carry out the studies.
