The Kuwaiti National Assembly has approved a national budget of KD34.15 billion (USD 115.5 billion) that includes large infrastructure projects, writes MENA Rail News. Among other project, the list includes the new metro for Kuwait City and the country’s section of the GCC Railway Network that will commence this year.
It is hoped that the railway line through the country will eventually link up with Iraq and countries beyond as neighbours connect their railway systems to the GCC network via Kuwait.
As well as the freight and passenger railway, plans for a new metro have been approved. Member states of the GCC have agreed to have part of the proposed international railway network completed by 2018, so Kuwait should at least have this section in place.
