Ukraine asked for Lithuanian’s assistance in rail sector

Lithuania-UkraineDuring a meeting with Lituania’s Arijandas Šliupas, Deputy Minister of Transport, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oksana Reiter, responsible for European integration, asked for practical Lithuanian experts’ assistance and to share their experience on European integration process and specific challenges faced in transport system integration into the European network process.
“Without doubts, Ukraine is taking European oriented path. We want to change the post-Soviet system and make the necessary reforms ensuring a successful implementation of Ukraine-EU Association Agreement. We work a lot in order to reach quick results. Transport sector is one of the most important aspects of the Agreement. For this reason, we ask for the immediate Lithuanian experts’ help”, said Deputy Minister Oksana Reiter.
“Transport links between Lithuania and Ukraine are particularly strong. Ukraine is our important trading and transport partner; therefore, we will consider the needs expressed by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and try to help the country in any way we can,” Šliupas said.
Ukraine will try to get acquainted with Lithuania’s experience in applying EU directives on railway management, tariff policy and technical compatibility of rail activity. The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine is also interested in Public Private Partnership (PPP) practice, cargo and goods accounting system implemented in Klaipeda State Seaport and Lithuania’s experience in postal services modernization.
