The volume of Moldova’s combined railway, road, river and air freight traffic rose 4% in 2014, to 14.43 million tonnes, the country’s statistics bureau said. Road traffic grew by 11.1%, to 9.1 million tonnes, while rail freight shrank by 7.8%, to 5 million tonnes. River traffic grew by a spectacular 39.7%, to 227 thousand tonnes. Calculated in freight tonne-kilometres, total traffic fell 6.6%, to some 4.167 billion in 2014.
