The state Transportation Cabinet (Louisville, Kentucky, USA) has committed up to USD 2 million — or an estimated 75 percent of the cost — of constructing rail crossing warning devices, such as gates and lights, at several rail crossings in areas of west Louisville.
The eventual aim is to establish a railroad “quiet zone,” in conjunction with the Federal Railroad Administration, “so that trains will not have to blow their horns through the entire community,” Jeff Brown, project manager with Metro Public Works, said at a recent public meeting about the project.
