Vancouver: Transportation is the biggest issue in general local elections

VancouverComing up in November, general local elections will be held all over the province and includes an election for the Director of Electoral Area A in the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
When Metro Vancouver voters head to the polls on Nov. 15, they will choose who they think is best to run their cities, and also set the stage for how the region handles transportation issues far into the future.
Those elected to Metro Vancouver’s 21 city halls — from Vancouver to White Rock and Bowen Island to Langley — are charged with designing a referendum question on transportation funding that will direct transportation priorities going forward.
Transportation is one of the biggest issues in this election. Vancouver mayoral candidates Gregor Robertson of Vision Vancouver and Non-Partisan Association’s Kirk LaPointe are arguing over a subway line along the Broadway corridor, while in Surrey, light rail is a topic for debate.
