The Polish Central Communication Port (CPK) has submitted applications for EU funding worth over PLN 1 billion (EUR 237 million) under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) 2021-2027 program. Approved by Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, the applications total PLN 1.18 billion (EUR 280 million).
CPK’s proposals were submitted during the final call for proposals under the CEF Transport Instrument outlined in the Multiannual Work Programme for 2021-2027. This program targets large transport projects, including railways, roads, ports, and multimodal hubs. The results are expected this summer.
“We recently secured a location decision for the airport construction and are now advancing to the implementation phase, which requires significant financial resources. We aim to build state-of-the-art airport and rail infrastructure in close cooperation with the European Union,” said Dariusz Klimczak, Minister of Infrastructure.
CPK seeks funding for three key projects
CPK’s funding applications focus on three projects:
- Łódź Fabryczna – Łódź Retkinia High-Speed Tunnel
Funding sought: PLN 845.5 million (EUR 200 million).
Scope: Preparatory and demolition work for five underground chambers, excavation and construction of the high-speed tunnel, and finishing works. - CPK Railway Junction Design (Package I)
Funding sought: PLN 75.4 million (EUR 18 million).
Scope: Development of design documentation for the planned railway junction. - Katowice–State Border Rail Section
Funding sought: PLN 79.1 million (EUR 19 million).
Scope: Preparation of construction design for a section of the extended TEN-T Baltic Sea–Adriatic Sea corridor.
“The total funding requested demonstrates the large scale of the project and the determination of experts involved,” said Maciej Lasek, government plenipotentiary for CPK.
Dr. Filip Czernicki, President of CPK, highlighted that two of the applications are for design work, while one is for construction. He acknowledged the strong competition for EU funding but emphasized the importance of securing financial support for the projects.
To date, CPK has received over PLN 500 million (EUR 118 million) in EU funding for railway initiatives, with the latest applications signaling continued efforts to expand the scope of these projects.
