Morocco’s Railways (ONCF) awarded the consortium of Ineco and the local engineering company CID a contract to carry out the preliminary project for the railway service between the cities of Oued Zem and Beni Mellal, in the centre of the country. This is the third contract that the company has been awarded in 2024 in the region, making Morocco the country with the highest volume of new contracts so far this year with EUR 2.27 million.
As part of Morocco’s 2040 railway strategy, the new work includes the widening and rectification of approximately 40 km between Khouribga and Oued Zem, studies for the elimination of level crossings on approximately 120 km between Sidi el Aidi and Oued Zem and the development of a new route between Oued Zem and Beni Mellal of approximately 60 km.
This is the second contract awarded to the Ineco – CID consortium, as a result of the collaboration framework they maintain in the digitalisation of public administration, high speed, urban mobility and the development of the airport network in Morocco, as well as in other African countries. Ineco’s President, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, visited the country in November 2023 and consolidated the collaboration framework in the areas of digitalisation of public administration, high speed, urban mobility and development of the airport network in Morocco, as well as in other countries on the African continent.
Morocco’s Railways will be expanded through the construction of high-speed rail network from 320 to more than 1,280 km over the next 16 years. It is expected that 87% of the national population will benefit from this upgraded network, compared to 51% today. In addition, 12 ports and 15 international airports will be connected.
Recently, ONCF awarded a management assistance contract for the high-speed rail connection between Kenitra and Marrakech and a fastening and switch systems contract for Casablanca – Marrakech high-speed rail was awarded to Vossloh.
