A new Warszawa Gdańska station will be built

Rail passengers will see a new Warszawa Gdańska station, and residents of the capital will gain a modern business center. Companies from the PKP Group – PKP SA and Xcity Investment – and from the Ghelamco Group are resuming their cooperation that was interrupted years ago. An annex to the investment agreement was signed, which will allow for the resumption of preparations for the implementation of this large-scale project.

As part of the joint investment, a new Warszawa Gdańska railway station and a complex of four multifunctional commercial buildings with an estimated total area of approx. 100,000 sq m will be built. The usable area of the station itself will be approx. 1,900 sq m. The project is to be divided into 5 phases. Four of them are the so-called commercial phases. This means that within each of them one building will be built for business functions. As part of the 5th phase, a new Warszawa Gdańska railway station will be built. In this way, a modern business center will be created, perfectly connected to the railway and metro, as well as a railway station of the 21st century.

“From the beginning of its history, the railway has had a strong impact on its surroundings. New districts and entire cities were created around it, factories were built. Even today, the railway can and should perform city-forming functions. The real estate managed by PKP has enormous potential; many of them – like Warsaw Gdańsk – are located in great locations: city centers, well-connected points. Projects with the participation of external investors are a good direction to properly release this potential,” said Andrzej Bułczyński, member of the board of PKP SA.

“The Warsaw Gdańska development project, which is at the center of our recent activities, is a strategic investment for the Xcity company. The construction of a modern office and service complex together with a new railway station will not only meet the growing needs of the market, but will also contribute to the development of this part of the city. Thanks to the combination of an excellent location, modern architecture and extensive infrastructure, our project will become the new business center of Warsaw,” said Ireneusz Gliszczyński, CEO of Xcity Investment.

The investment in the Warsaw Gdańsk area will be carried out as part of a so-called development project. This is a formula according to which PKP SA – the owner of the land – contributes it to the project, and the investment is carried out by the company Xcity Investment established for this purpose within the PKP Group and an external partner – the Ghelamco Group.

“As a company whose portfolio includes such icons of modern Warsaw as Warsaw Spire with Plac Europejski, Warsaw UNIT or the currently constructed skyscraper The Bridge, we have many years of experience in implementing multifunctional, city-forming projects and business centers. We are very happy to resume cooperation with PKP, because we see in the Warszawa Gdańska station a huge potential for creating a valuable space that will combine the needs of Warsaw residents, business and passengers of the modern Polish railway,” says Jarosław Zagórski, Managing Director of Ghelamco Poland.

The PKP Group is returning to implementing development projects that were suspended years ago. The main goal of such investments is to create modern, functional urban spaces, combining, for example, business and railway functions. This allows for the optimal use of the potential of land belonging to PKP SA.
