Alstom signs agreement to develop Jakarta MRT system

Jakarta MRT networkAlstom and PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate and explore the development of future Jakarta MRT network.

This inaugural cooperation between Alstom and PT MRTJ will see both parties engaging in discussions and exchanging information related to suitable railway systems and procurement schemes for the MRT system in Jakarta.

“We are delighted to take it to the next level and partner with PT MRTJ in exploring the development of future MRT lines in Jakarta. Drawing on our strengths and innovative technologies in implementing turnkey systems globally, and experience in various procurement structures, we are confident that this collaboration will lay a strong foundation for an efficient and sustainable urban transportation system for Jakarta,” Toby Tiberghien, Alstom’s Turnkey and Rolling Stock Director for East Asia said.

Under the agreement, Alstom will leverage its extensive experience in integrating complete urban transport systems that include rolling stock, signalling, infrastructure and services to support PT MRTJ in identifying suitable transport technologies and procurement schemes for its railway network expansion programme.

By 2035, Jakarta MRT network will be expanded to 235 km to reduce traffic congestion while improving air quality in the densely-populated megacity. The next phase of this expansion includes MRT Phase 3 East-West Line, which will span 87 km across the Greater Jakarta Region, comprising 40 stations.

“The Memorandum of Understanding signing with a major global railway company like Alstom is a reflection of MRT Jakarta’s effort to present the future of transportation in Indonesia, even further, as an effort to present a new face of Jakarta being the future of a new and renewable economic centre in Indonesia. With Alstom, we will delve into a cooperation to build the most appropriate urban rail system for Jakarta, from the aspect of trains, signalling, to an efficient procurement scheme for equipment and services for MRT Jakarta,” William Sabandar, PT MRTJ President Director, said.
