Spain’s rail infrastructure manager Adif has signed a EUR 8.85 million service contract under a programme covering sidings extension to 750 metres at different stations of the RFIG. The contract will be completed within the next two years and has been divided into three lots, corresponding to the North, South and Center-Northeast geographical areas, where the selected sidings are located.
The objective of these actions is to provide the RFIG with the optimal conditions to meet the needs of freight transport by rail at the national and international levels and to take another step towards the interoperability of the rail network. In this way, the extension of the sidings will allow the parking and separation of trains of interoperable standard length, with the quality and reliability of the current service.
A EUR 3.69 million contract was awarded to the UTE (Temporary Union of Companies) consortium compriding Prointec and TRN Táryet. This first lot covers the siding network in the North area.
The contract for Lot 2, which includes the sidings in the South area, has been awarded to the joint venture formed by Peyco Proyectos, Estudios y Construcciones and Inse Rail, for a total value of EUR 2.72 million. The joint venture of Esteyco and Ardanuy Engineering won a EUR 2.44 million contract for the sidings in the Center – Northeast areas.
Adif will select the number of projects and their type throughout the term of the contract which is based on Adif’s different studies and functional analyzes carried out in recent years.
The sidings extension programme will take place on the general interest railway network (RFIG) to allow interoperable standard-length freight trains to park and depart in a safe and fast manner, which will promote the rail freight traffic. The actions contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), such as number 9, which has among its goals the development of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures.
